Real, cotton nappies

We did a survey. Apparently, 0 out of 10 parents prefer to wear non-breathable, chemical-filled, paper underwear. However, it appears that most parents in the UK seem to think that their babies' bottoms are best clad in just such a device, and enjoying a laugh, have labelled it "a disposable".

Real nappies such as ours, are breathable and comfortable. Being as they rely upon the natural absorbency of pure cotton, they are entirely free from the sorts of super-absorbant chemicals, gels and perfumes found in disposables.

Our nappies are comprised of three parts:
The cotton nappy

1. Cotton Nappy

The cotton nappy is a rectangular arrangement of layers of pure, soft cotton. These are sewn together to form four layers, but with a central panel consisting of six or eight layers (depending on size) for high absorbency. The nappies are available in the following sizes:

The outer wrap

2. Outer Wrap

The wrap is what holds the cotton nappy against your baby, and is waterproofed on the inside. It is shaped, fastens securely using Velcro and is designed with elasticated "leak guards" at the legs to protect against damage to other clothing and bedding. Wraps are available in the following sizes and with the following stitching colours:

The biodegradable liners

3. Biodegradable Liner

The biodegradable liner is a single thin sheet, easily torn from a roll, which is wrapped around the cotton nappy. It consists of 80% paper with a small number of polyester fibres to hold the paper together. It retains solids and is safe to be flushed down the toilet. It also allows liquid to pass through it into the cotton nappy, but prevents seeping back - keeping your baby even drier.

Using the Nappy

To use the nappy, the cotton inner is folded, the liner is placed around it, and they are placed together into the wrap. The nappy is then snugly fitted to your baby using the two Velcro tabs on the wrap. The wraps can often be used for several wearings before you will require to wash them. They can be easily rinsed through by hand or machine-washed at 30°C. A range of sizes of cotton nappies and wraps means that our system grows with your baby.
